Chief Shastany was appointed to the position of Chief of the Stoughton Police Department in 2010. He formerly served as a high ranking member of the Framingham Police Department for 28 years and was a driving force behind the development of many innovative programs that involve caring for children who have witnessed violence, a jail diversion program, as well as improving the response to calls dealing with those with mental Illness. He is well known for his handling of diverse communities and his ability to bring many different groups of people together for a common goal. As an officer, he has worked at every level of law enforcement from patrol and detectives to first line and high-level supervision as well as public relations.

My policing emphasis is focused on prevention, intervention and educational efforts rather than solely relying on the punitive side of law enforcement. I feel that my primary responsibility will be to develop and maintain positive relationships with all members of the Stoughton community.”
